Mound & Septic Systems

This is a typical waste distribution system. The septic or aerobic tank is the first tank solids and liquids arrive at once they leave your building.
Ideally, most solids will separate downward and start a natural decomposition. Following the Septic tank may be additional tanks depending on the size of the system. The last tank is the Pump (Dosing) Tank. At this point, liquid waste is pumped out to the distribution array for absorption in to the soil at a controlled rate.
With ideal soil, this array can be placed into the ground, however much of the land in the US does not meet the ideal absorption rate needed to safely release it into the environment...thus...the Mound System is often employed.
A Mound System compensates by employing a proper absorption bed underneath the distribution array and is covered by soil (hence the mound) to contain the waste, preventing surface contamination. As these systems are more frequently employed, legislation was created to ensure older systems in need of repair meet current environmental safety standards & avoid contaminating our water tables, rivers & streams.
These regulations hold both the homeowner and the plumbing community as joint responsible parties, so we have as much to bear as you do. What can you do? Be conscientious and have your system inspected annually. We can offer maintenance contracts that will take the burden off of you. We assess your system and can provide a low-cost maintenance schedule that can help prevent the major headaches that catch most people when they least expect it.
